1 Gather Public IP Information
UconnectedIT STUN servers give information to the devices behind the NAT on what port and public IP as it appears to the rest of the world.
2 Public IP Returned & Relay Option Assigned
UconnectedIT confirms how the devices LAN NAT has translated the private IP of a device and will also issue a public IP and TURN media relay option to be used in case it is needed.
3 Direct Connectivity Test
IP/port are shared by devices to attempt direct streaming over SDP. The far end device initiates a connectivity test to that IP to check if a peer-to-peer connection is possible.
4A Successful Peer-to-Peer Connection
A session is established with direct media if devices are able to contact each other through the candidate STUN.
4B TURN Relay Connection
Media relays through the geographically nearest relay point If devices are not able to connect due to some issues. The SDP negotiates the use of TURN media relay IP to do this.
NAT Traversal
85% of the time all you need to get your media to flow directly is STUN (Session Traversal Utilities for NAT) that is the first step in negotiating the connection between two WebRTC. That provides free lookups for unlimited reliable STUN so that you can have free peer-to-peer calls.
